Future of the Law Institute (FLI)
Two-Day Institute and mentoring program to promote diversity in the legal profession by encouraging minority and economically disadvantaged high school students in King County and surrounding areas to pursue higher education in the law. November 17th and 18th, 2006
YMCA High School Mock Trial Competition
The YMCA Mock Trial competition is in its 19th year, allowing students to participate in true-to-life courtroom drama before real judges in real courtrooms, gaining an understanding of the law and the role of the judiciary. The competition typically takes place in February; details for 2007 will be posted when available.
Youth and Law Forum
Last year’s event, themed “Youth & Truth: S.O.S., featured a mock trial, workshops on crime scene investigation, internet safety, protecting your identity, and a demonstration by a bomb sniffing dog. Participants also received advice on what to do at the scene of a car accident, and when and how criminal records may be erased. April 2007, details will be posted when available.
WYLD Pre-Law Student Leadership Conference
The Pre-Law Student Leadership Conference takes place in Eastern Washington and is designed to encourage at-risk and minority students to pursue higher education and to consider careers in law. The program emphasizes the importance of community involvement and staying in school. There is no cost to students. Financial support and volunteer services are provided by judges, lawyers, law firms, specialty bar associations and private corporations. The program takes place in April 2007.
